Celebrating the winners of the 2021 Engineering Design and Development Showcase

The Friends of Energy Institute had the distinct honor of awarding Microsoft SurfacePro workbooks to the winners of the 2021 Engineering Design and Development Showcase. This group of seniors overcame unprecedented hurdles due to COVID as they learned to work together remotely to produce their engineering capstone project. These photos were one of the only times the group met in person!

The Senior Engineering Design and Development course is a hallmark of the Project Lead The Way engineering curriculum taught at Energy Institute High School. These students were challenged to "identify an issue and then research, design, and test a solution, ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of engineers."

When asked to explain their final design, the group said, "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, porch piracy has been on the rise. Many times, thieves can walk up to your porch and steal your packages with little to no chances of getting caught. We created a safety box called the Porch Parrot that allows for delivery packages to be placed inside and protected from porch pirates."

We are proud of these seniors and look forward to their many future accomplishments!

And their plans for after graduation? They’re all very exciting:
Alejandro Clavier will attend Wichita State University to pursue a degree in collaborative media with a focus in filmmaking and game design. Joseph Timmons will attend Texas Tech University and major in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in computer science to further a career in the Energy Industry. Carter Carpentieri Asbury will attend Case Western Reserve University and major in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
